***Because Marvel offered a whopping $250,000, Mickey Rourke has decided not to do the upcoming sequel.  Instead, which I think is great news, Rourke is now on board to star in Sylvester Stallone’s upcoming movie ‘The Expendables‘.

This has the potential to be an incredible movie.  Word on the street has it that Mickey Rourke (Sin City, The Wrestler) and Sam Rockwell (The Assassination of Jesse James…) have has signed on to play the a main villains that will challenge Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man.  Mickey Rourke is rumored to be playing Ivan Petrovich (possibly, as there are many incarnations of the villain) a.k.a. Crimson Dynamo, a man who uses a nuclear powered suit (similar to Iron Man) for his supervillain activities. Sam Rockwell is rumored to be playing Justin Hammer, a multi-billionaire that is a rival of Tony Stark.

This is some awesome news and I hope that they he will indeed sign on for the sequel.

Tales of the Black Freighter…

Here is a trailer for the direct to DVD release for ‘Tales of the Black Freighter’, which will be on shelves March 24.  For those of you who don’t know what it is, it’s a side (comic book) story featured throughout the graphic novel of Watchmen.  It tells the story about a man, cast adrift at sea, who is trying to make it make to his hometown to warn his people of the impending doom of the black freighter.  The story’s events are an analogous representation of the characters in Watchmen.

Gerard Butler (300, RocknRolla) will be providing the voice of the story’s main character, ‘The Captain’.

The Adventures of Tintin (Update!)…

As I said earlier this month, I am very excited to see the new Tintin movie (the full name of the movie is now: ‘The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn‘).  Well the news gets even better, word on the street is that Jamie Bell (‘Undertow’, ‘King Kong’, ‘Defiance’) will be playing Tintin and Daniel Craig (‘Casino Royale’, ‘Quantum of Solace’, ‘Defiance’) will be playing the pirate Red Rackham, one of the villains in the series.  But wait, it gets even better.  A few screenwriters that have climbed aboard the adventure include: Edgar Wright (‘Shaun of the Dead’, ‘Hot Fuzz’, ‘Spaced’), Joe Cornish (‘The Adam and Joe Show’ and Edgar Wright’s upcoming movie ‘Ant-Man’), and Steven Moffat (‘Doctor Who’).  Also set to be in the movie are: Toby Jones, Eric Stoltz, and Mackenzie Crook.

I guess I didn’t realize this, but Steven Spielberg will be directing the first film and Peter Jackson will be directing the second feature.  There are plans for a third film, but it is currently unknown as to who will be sitting in the director’s chair.

Here is the episode ‘Cigars of the Pharaoh‘.

The Adventures of Tintin…

The Adventures of Tintin was an animated series that I genuinely enjoyed as a little kid.  Upon hearing that Steven Spielberg would be directing and Peter Jackson producing an animated feature using motion-capture technology, I couldn’t help but smile in anticipation to start reading more news about the film.  I was even more excited to hear that Andy Serkis, better known as Gollum/Smeagol from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, will be playing Tintin’s friend Captain Haddock.  But what really topped it for me was when I heard that Thomson and Thompson, two bumbling detectives that serve as the comic relief, will be played by none other than Nick Frost and Simon Pegg.  Like I said, I will be looking forward to seeing any upcomig news on the film.

Check out the latest Watchmen featurette here.  All I have to say is that 20th Century Fox has got to idiotic and moronic for wanting to halt a movie, that could quite possibly be a box office smasher and the biggest winner of 2009.  But no, they want to ruin Watchmen fans, comic book fans, and even the general theater-goer’s movie experience by delaying the release of the movie.  20th Century Fox MUST be stopped.  They don’t know it, but I’m giving them the middle finger right now…
